POSTCARDS FROM THE WEST COAST

In the summer of 2023, I spent a month photographing the West Coast starting in Montclair, California before driving up through Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Idaho, and Montana to see my family in Calgary, Alberta. On the way back, I cut West and visited my family in Vancouver, British Columbia before heading south through Washington, Oregon, and California. I spent a lot of time reflecting on the strangeness of National Parks, regions' layered histories of colonization, western expansion, and industrialization, and the shifting microclimates and landscapes that offered alternative borders along the way.
